  1. Loxophlebia nomia, or similar? Posted 6 years ago
    1. The pattern on the thorax doesn't quite match. It could be Cosmosoma sp. as well. Posted 6 years ago
      1. Wow, I've checked hundreds of photos across Loxophlebia, Cosmosoma and Isanthrene but failed to find anything as close as Loxophlebia nomia. It's so close yet I agree that if you look closer, it's unlikely to be a match:
        - thorax, as you said
        - amount of bands on the abdomen
        - black vains on the wings don't match

I'll throw it in the FB group, you never know.

        1. Exactly, it's close, but not quite right... Posted 6 years ago
          1. Somebody on FB mentioned Gymnelia sp. yet to not attempt a further species ID, as it's too difficult and uncertain. Which is of course an open invitation to try:
            http://www.learnaboutbutterflies.com/Andes%20-%20Gymnelia%20peratea.htm
            https://www.pbase.com/splluk/image/125201172

I'm confident this is an exact visual match, even the black lines of the wings match perfectly. I'm not confident in the naming of the 2nd observation (hence it says cf.), yet that first link is known for its quality in IDs. I think I'm going for it, tentatively.

  2. I agree with Gymnelia peratea. You can see the original illustration of this species here:

As with the Nebulosa fulvipalpis, this one was also originally described from the Western Cordillera, near Cali.

    1. How nice to hear that my amateur logic was a hit, not a miss for once :) Thanks for confirming! Posted 6 years ago
