Heliopsis helianthoides Heliopsis helianthoides (False Sunflower) is probably not native to the county where I live although it is native to Minnesota. This species and several others probably moved northward along railroad right-of-ways in the earlier part of the 20th Century where conditions such as open ground and fires mimicked some aspects of the prairie habitat where these plants were from. From the railroad grades, this species and several other prairie species have extended their reach to old fields and roadsides.
