  1. I'm really rubbish at birding by ear, but this time I made an effort and it paid off big time. I knew that this species was very vocal, and definitely occurred in the area, so I had downloaded the song and played it several times the night before to try and commit it to memory. And that morning, I heard one within minutes of arriving, so I backtracked and spent some time trying unsuccessfully to get a look at it. But then a second bird arrived, singing on the other side of the trail, until my bird crossed and they then spent several minutes face to face, in what was either a courtship display, or two rival males settling a border dispute! The video isn't great since they were on the other side of a little rise, and I didn't dare move, but it's still fun! Posted 6 years ago
