  1. No other cryptic species within your range? Or did you get a good view of the hindwings?
I have to leave almost all of my Apantesis observations at genus level IDs!

    1. I was wondering the same thing. If you have a hindwing shot, could you post it? It would be so nice to add to the record. Posted 6 years ago
      1. A hindwing shot this coming summer I hope. Posted 6 years ago
        1. That would be awesome! This species has such a beautiful hindwing pattern! Posted 6 years ago
    2. The wing pattern matches Apantesis virgo. This one was confirmed at Bug Guide and BAMONA.

      1. I agree - this species, in my opinion, has a pretty distinctive forewing pattern and you can see in this shot that it has the W-shaped subterminal line and the AM line meets the costa at a right angle. Posted 6 years ago
        1. I have a side view of this same individual I can post. It gives a better perspective on the wing patterns. Posted 6 years ago

''Apantesis virgo'', the virgin tiger moth, is a moth of the family Erebidae. It is found from Newfoundland south to Florida west to Alberta.

The wingspan is about 56 mm. The colour of the hindwings varies from yellow to scarlet, with one or more median dark blotches in addition to the discal spot. The larvae feed on various low-growing plants, including ''Thermopsis rhombifolia'' and ''Plantago'' species. The species overwinters in the larval stage.
