
Coptis trifolia
Coptis trifolia (Threeleaf Goldthread) flower. Plants were growing under a mix of tamarack (Larix laricina), balsam fir (Abies balsamea), black spruce (Picea mariana), white spruce (Picea glauca), and quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides) in moist moss-covered soil. The club-shaped yellow petals have fallen off or did not develop except for one which is barely visible behind the stamens and carpels. The tips of the petals have a cup that holds nectar.

''Coptis trifolia'' , the threeleaf goldthread or savoyane, is a perennial plant in the genus ''Coptis'', a member of the Ranunculaceae family. It has one small, deeply three-lobed, evergreen leaf rising from the ground.
The sepals are white and are easily mistaken for petals. The four to seven petals are yellow and club-like, and they are smaller than the stamens which are numerous and thread-like with delicate anthers.
