Checking different databases it seems the accepted scientific name is Pertusaria ophthalmiza. Posted 6 years ago

  Consortium of North American Lichen Herbaria now lists it as Lepra ophthalmiza while Ways of Enlichment keeps it as Pertusaria ophthalmiza. Both say Variolaria ophthalmiza is a synonym but it looks like recent classification puts it in either Lepra or Pertusaria depending on who you consult. I've added the two other species names in parenthesis in the title.

    Yes, I see Gary! The classification of these species (as well as many insects and birds) is changing so dynamically that it is difficult to keep track of them permanently. Maybe it should be nice to include Lepra ophthalmiza as tag as well. Posted 6 years ago

      I know what you mean about the constantly changing nomenclature. There's a lichen that I've been looking years for and finally found it in 2016 and again in 2018: Usnea longissima but it seems it is called Dolichousnea longissima by some. Posted 6 years ago
