Habitat: Mixed forest (mostly oak, beech, birch, eastern hemlock)

Cap, 5-12cm, covered in gelatinous rusty brown upturned scales especially toward the centre. Stem, 20-50cm, often curved, smooth above the inconspicuous torn ring, covered in bands of viscid brownish re-curved scales below. Habitat, in dense clusters at the foot of Beech trees or stumps.
