  1. You have to tell me how you did this. I see bats at night around our house all the time, but it seems like a one in a million shot capturing one in flight, in focus. This is incredible. Posted 12 years ago

  3. Ha ha it's really technical! I plonk the camera on a tripod, focus on the bird table and move away from it a bit. Keeping my finger halfway down on the shutter I wait until something happens or my finger falls off!
    I suppose just like all wildlife photography, it's knowing your subject. I know which angle these greeedy little bats come in at and the frequency at which they arrive. Like all my photos, its very hit and miss and I have a whole load of photos of half bats, bits of bats and distant trees! With this one I just got lucky.

The Peters's Epauletted Fruit Bat is a species of megabat in the Pteropodidae family. It is found in Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitat is in riverine or evergreen forest, or moist woodland, where there are fruit-bearing trees.
