it is also interesting for historic reasons - it was discovered by one of the first Jewish Botanists that operated in Israel, in the early 20th century - Aharon Aharonson. he called it Rumex rothschildianus, to honor the Baron Rothschild, his benefactor. his notes were never published - he hid them during World War I, and died in a plane crush. his notes were rediscovered in 1940. during that time, another important Israeli botanist - Prof. Alexander Eig, found the Rumex and described it according to the fruit&#039;s feature: aeroplaniformis - shaped like an airplane. as his name was officially published first, this is the official name - and Aharonson&#039;s choice - Rothschild&#039;s name - remains only as a synonym. <br />
