
Depressed Hedgehog - Hydnum umbilicatum
*Species ID is tentative. I am debating if this could be H. repandum, but I think it is more likely H. umbilicatum
Stem bruised reddish brown. Cap was orange and slightly sunken in the middle. Cap was ~ 5 cm wide. Cream-colored teeth that were about 6 mm long.
Habitat: Growing in moss in a mixed forest -in a spot with lots of oak, pine, and eastern hemlock.

''Hydnum umbilicatum'', commonly known as the depressed hedgehog, is a species of tooth fungus in the family Hydnaceae. It was scientifically described in 1902 by American mycologist Charles Horton Peck. It is found in eastern North America, where it grows on boggy soil under conifer trees. It is edible.
