  1. I'm not sure, but I think it resembles Hypena sp. (Erebidae). Was it large-ish? Just curious because it has an apparently tiny little hopper hiding under its wing! Posted 6 years ago
    1. This one is a big crop so it was quite small. Your reputation for spotting photo bombers is so consistent! When processing this one I remember having the brief thought "hah, wonder if she'll find this one". And of course you did :)

The Flowing-line Hypena is a moth of the Noctuidae family. It is found from Minnesota to Nova Scotia, south to Florida and Texas.

The wingspan is 23–28 mm. The moth flies from May to September in the south and from June to August in the north. There two to three generations per year. The larvae feed on false nettle, but have also been reared on dandelion and on dock.
