What are the differences between Langsdorfia franckii and Langsdorfia lunifera? Posted 6 years ago
@Lisa: you ask the hardest question. I spent 20 minutes comparing them visually and each time I found a difference, another photo blew my theory. The only vague theory remaining is that it looks like Langsdorfia lunifera has the explicit golden speckles at the end of the wings, meaning I see it more clearly and more often on reference photos compared to franckii. Franckii, which on some photos doesn't have it at all, yet on some does have it vaguely.
The added complexity is that it could be related to the individual itself, and I may also be looking at misidentified photos.
Distributions differ slightly between the two but both are poorly reported from Colombia so it's not a conclusive difference.
This is a long way of saying: I don't know :)
