
Stephanopoides simoni female - top view, La Isla Escondida, Colombia
A tiny, yet visually spectacular crab spider. We found it as seen, seemingly not that well camouflaged in its environment, unless it is trying to mimic something we don't know about. It is deep orange all over, yet the abdomen is black with a clear, thick yellow ring.

Assuming that ID is correct, this would be the female of Stephanopoides simoni. A species I unknowingly had already photographed the male of. The sexual dimorphism is crazy! Posted 6 years ago
