Gentiana lagodechiana is a well known Caucasian perennial. The magnificent blue flowers have greenish dots. This picture was taken in Azerbaijan, Great Caucasus, near Marhal.

It’s not often that we get photos shared from Azerbaijan! Azerbaijan is located at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It has a vast variety of landscapes with over half of its landmass consisting of mountain ridges and highlands.

Thanks to its unique climate, the flora of Azerbaijan is much richer than anywhere else in the South Caucasus. There are more than 4,500 species of plants in Azerbaijan!
