After drying the plant closes like a fist, waiting for the next rain to disperse its seeds. In the extreme desert it could take years for the next rain to come. Anastatica hierochuntica (Rose of Jericho) is a desert annual. Leaves rounded-wavy. Flowers white tiny, fruits rounded and small. Anastatica is a monotypic genus with the type species "Anastatica hierochuntica". The plant is a small gray annual herb that rarely grows above 15 centimetres high, and bears minute white flowers. It is a tumbleweed and a resurrection plant.
