Carex lurida?

Habitat: Disturbed area next to a small woodland pond

  1. This looks more like a sedge than a cocklebur to me. There should be no separations in the spikes, and I see no hooks that are used for "hitchhiking". I'm pretty sure I can see grass-like leaves in the background too?

You may have Carex lurida or something similar here.

    1. Ohhhh, thanks Lisa! I can be quite clueless with plants. I've removed the ID for now and will check out Carex lurida. Posted 4 years ago
      1. Just checked and it looks like a better match. So, thanks again. Posted 4 years ago
