Caddisfly Larvae Cases - Order Trichoptera I found these cases attached to a rock in a river bed that had dried up due to lack of rain. Case-making caddisflies build their cases out of silk, rocks, and sand. The cases are open on both ends to allow water to flow through.<br />

    1. Thanks! Yes, kind of like bagworms...There are different types of caddisflies though and not all are case-bearing. Some make nets instead of cases, and a few species are free-living. I think the ones on this rock would be considered fixed cases as they were attached to the rock. Other species of case-bearing caddisflies have mobile cases. Posted 6 years ago
