Goldenthread Cordyceps - Tolypocladium ophioglossoides
Parasitic on underground puffballs (false truffles) in the genus Elaphomyces. Unfortunately, I didn't recognize what this was at the time and didn't look for or find the truffle.
Habitat: Growing on the ground in a deciduous forest.

"Tolypocladium ophioglossoides", also known by two of its better known synonyms "Elaphocordyceps ophioglossoides" and "Cordyceps ophioglossoides" and commonly known as the goldenthread cordyceps, is a species of fungus in the family Ophiocordycipitaceae. It is parasitic on fruit bodies of the truffle-like "Elaphomyces".
