Golden Waxy Cap - Hygrocybe flavescens Convex caps that were bright yellowish orange. Pale yellow, widely-spaced gills with short gills frequent. Gills were attached to the stem. The stem was yellow, dry (but, slightly greasy), and fragile. They were approximately 5 cm tall.<br />

Golden Waxy Cap - Hygrocybe flavescens

Convex caps that were bright yellowish orange. Pale yellow, widely-spaced gills with short gills frequent. Gills were attached to the stem. The stem was yellow, dry (but, slightly greasy), and fragile. They were approximately 5 cm tall.

Habitat: Growing on the ground near tree roots in a mixed forest.

Hygrophorus flavescens (Kauffman) Smith & Hesler syn. Cap 2.5-7cm across, broadly convex becoming flatter in age, sometimes with a depressed disc; margin incurved at first, sometimes upturned and wavy in mature specimens; bright orange, paler toward margin; sticky, smooth, then dry and shiny, margin striate when moist.
