Northern Harrier - Circus cyaneus **Sorry for the bad photo, but I was so excited to see this bird. It was a first for me!

Dark brown bird with some lighter color feathers underneath. It had a thick white band on its rump. It had a flat, owl-like face.

Habitat: Flying in an erratic, zig-zag pattern over coastal marshes at Meigs Point. It was flying in a fast, erratic pattern that it made it very difficult and frustrating to photograph.
The hen harrier or northern harrier is a bird of prey. It breeds throughout the northern parts of the northern hemisphere in Canada and the northernmost USA, and in northern Eurasia. This species is polytypic, with two subspecies. Marsh hawk is a historical name for the American form.
