Eastern Chipmunk - Tamias striatus
This chipmunk was incredibly curious and also equally frightened of me. It was hiding underneath a hollowed out tree, and every now and then it would run out from under the tree, watch me, and then retreat to the safety of its tree fortress where it would alternate between peaking at me and hiding.
Reddish-brown fur on its upper body and five dark brown stripes, which contrasted with light brown stripes along its back, ending in a dark tail. It had lighter fur on the lower part of its body, and a tawny stripe that ran from its whiskers to below its ears with lighter stripes over and under its eyes.
Habitat: Hiding under a hollowed out tree in a deciduous forest.

The eastern chipmunk is a chipmunk species found in eastern North America. It is the sole living member of the chipmunk subgenus "Tamias", sometimes recognised as a separate genus. Its name comes from the Odawa word "ajidamoonh" or the Ojibwe word "ajidamoo", which translates literally as "one who descends trees headlong."
