The Streamer-tailed Tyrant in all its glory
This is a distinctive and dramatic bird that is not widely known outside of south-eastern Brazil. Our guide used taped calls (which I usually frown on) to get one to appear and they are beautiful little birds, but fairly shy and difficult to get a good look or photo.
The streamer-tailed tyrant is a species of bird in the family Tyrannidae, the only one in the genus ''Gubernetes''.
It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay.
Its natural habitats are dry savanna and subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland.
