Gemmed Amanita - Amanita cf. gemmata
Yellow cap with white warts that easily brush off. there was a slight collar on stem base and frosty universal veil remnants.
Habitat: Growing on the ground in a coniferous forest in an area with sandy soil and lots of pine.
Notes: This mushroom species is considered toxic because it contains the same psychoactive chemical compounds (ibotenic acid and muscimol) that are found in the hallucinogenic Amanita muscaria (Fly Agaric).
*The North American version of Am. gemmata is probably different than the European species. Taxonomy is uncertain at this point.
