Snowy fungus, La Isla Escondida, Colombia A bit of a strange find, this fungus not growing on wood yet on the side of it and still managing to grow its lengthy stem in a straight line. The stem is grayish with a fine hair-like texture to it, and the cap and gills seem very snowy. <br />

  1. Very cool! I'd look towards Mycena sp.

Looks similar to Mycena chloroxantha, but I'm definitely not 100 percent sure! Not yellow enough!

  2. Mycena spinosissima (used to be Amparoina spinosissima) might actually be a better match. Not sure if microscopy is required for a SOLID ID. You may have to look into that!

If you don't feel comfortable with it being IDed, I think you could keep it at Mycena sect. Sacchariferae.

    1. Thanks so much, Lisa, I find that match visually very convincing, it's exactly as we saw it no matter which characteristic I check for. I see you even created the species record already, aren't you awesome :) Posted 6 years ago
      1. I had it ID'ed, but I wasn't sure if you would be convinced enough and removed it. :D Posted 6 years ago
        1. So careful :)
If you're convinced about a fungus ID, just go ahead with it, I typically surely would not know better as my fungi ID skills are very poor.

          1. I'm always very hesitant as there are a ton of cryptic species of fungi out there! Posted 6 years ago
  3. Whatever it is it is amazing! Posted 6 years ago
