Blunt-headed Tree Snake - rising, La Isla Escondida, Colombia Another meeting with this amazing lizard hunter. The Blunt-headed Tree Snake is very thin and lengthy yet extremely strong and flexible. It masters gravity as if it does not apply and can span meters in mid-air without any support basis. It&#039;s using this method that it can pick sleeping lizards from a tree. By not touching the tree itself, the lizard is never alerted. <br />

  1. Incredible! Just think of how difficult it must be for its blood to flow against gravity to its head, so the snake doesn't pass out. It must have lots of valves or something to aid this process. Posted 4 years ago
    1. It's unfortunate that it's not facing us as this scene I found most impressive. I'm sure you've seen a cobra rise straight up a few dozen cm or so. This one from its base rose up several meters straight up like it's nothing. We just stood there and froze, thinking "wtf is going on???". Then it kept going some more. Same for spanning 4m horizontally in a straight line, effortlessly. Seeing this with your own eyes you really start to think that gravity does not apply to it, it's like seeing water burn. 1. Amazing! I had to learn more about how their circulatory systems can work against gravity. Here's what I discovered:
-The distance from their hearts to their brains is short
        -They have anterior hearts
        -They have high blood pressure
-They have short lungs to eliminate the risk of pulmonary edema
-They have special mechanisms and behaviors to regulate blood flow
-Their tissues are unique in that they aren't as susceptible to blood pooling

        Awesome, right?!

        1. That really is awesome, thanks for the research! Posted 4 years ago
          1. You're welcome! I thought it was really fascinating and reminded me of giraffes and all the adaptations they have to employ just to get a drink of water ;) Posted 4 years ago
