
Mountain Bluet - Centaurea montana
Solitary, fringed, purple flowers with pink/red centers and black-edged involucre bracts. Flowers sit atop on unbranched stems and grow 1-2' tall. Large, green, lance-shaped leaves grow up to 7" long. Endemic to Europe, this flower escapes gardens very easily and has thus become established in North America.

''Centaurea montana'' is a species of ''Centaurea'' endemic to Europe. It is widespread and common in the more southerly mountain ranges of Europe, but is rarer in the north. It escapes from gardens readily, and has thereby become established in the British Isles, Scandinavia and North America.
