
Volcanic Steam Vents - Kīlauea
The steam in this photo is coming from active volcano steam vents on the shield volcano, Kīlauea, which is on the Big Island of Hawaii.
When rain trickles down through cracks, it hits rocks heated by the liquid rock below. The hot water rises through fissures and condenses in the air as steam. It's warm, but not too hot.
