  2. Yeah, I love sandpipers with their understated elegance (not to be compared to the gaudy hummingbirds or parrots), but lovely in their earth tone patterns. The late nature writer Pater Matthiessen was also a big fan as he described in his book about shorebirds, "The Wind Birds". Posted 6 years ago

The western sandpiper is a small shorebird. They migrate to both coasts of North America and South America. It is a very rare vagrant to western Europe.
