Caterpillar Frass This is just caterpillar frass (poop), but I thought it was interesting because there are concentric rings surrounding the frass on the leaf. I have never noticed leaf rings around frass before, and am not sure why they are there.<br />

  1. Christine , if this is from a caterpilar I can only assume that it is 3 feedings and then the rectum was full and the caterpilar had to go to the toilet. If this is from a butterfly then I don't know as butterflies really don't take up any solid form of food. But this is interesting . Posted 6 years ago
    1. Lol, oops! I meant to put the title as caterpillar frass. Thanks for catching that! Posted 6 years ago
      1. Also, I rewrote the description to better explain...I hope? The rings that I was referring to are the ones on the leaf, which made it look like the caterpillar had pooped at the center of a bullseye ;P Posted 6 years ago

  2. Weird! I'd be interested to hear if you see more examples of this. I'm trying to imagine how the frass could be causing the rings--and if it's just a coincidence, that still leaves the question of what caused them! Posted 6 years ago
    1. Yeah, I thought it was super weird. I will definitely be looking for this in the future as I had never seen this before... I'm always seeking out frass, so hopefully I'll spot more of this bullseye poop in the future! And, if I find some, I'll be sure to let you know. Posted 6 years ago
