A Hairy Woodpecker

This fellow, Picoides villosus, was very busy on a downed rotting log right near the parking lot at the entrance to the Hank’s Beach trail. It was completely oblivious to me taking its photograph.

  2. Hello Thibaud, thanks for the ID. When I originally posted this I identified this woodpecker according to the American Ornithological Society since that was what was already here on Jungle Dragon.. Some authorities put this species in genus Dryobates. It would be nice if there was a consensus! Gary Posted 6 years ago
