Brown Wolf Snake - Lycodon effraenis

Not familiar with the ID of this Snake, a bit less than 1 meter length with black/white bars all along the body.

Update : This is a juvenile Brown Wolf Snake - Lycodon effraenis, blackish in colour with white stripes. The adults of the species are mostly brown without stripes.

  On the other post that is a bit closer-up, you can see some parasites/bugs around the eyes and crawling on the boy. Don't think its Spiders though. Posted 6 years ago

  It is indeed a Wolf Snake, a local friend just helped me with the ID, its likely to be Lycodon effraenis. Posted 6 years ago

Might be Lycodon butleri too. Depends in part on where in Malaysia it was found. Posted 6 years ago

  I looked up Reptile Database, it says the distribution of Lycodon butleri are Thailand and West Malaysia.

    You're right, L. butleri is known only from the mainland. According to Snakes of Borneo (2nd edition), the way to tell L. subcinctus from L. effraensis is that the body scales are keeled in L. subcinctus and smooth in L. effraensis. Both species are widespread in Borneo. Posted 6 years ago
