Penny Bun - Boletus cf. edulis
This mushroom is classified as Boletus edulis, but whether or not the "true" Boletus edulis occurs in North America is up for debate. So, you could consider this mushroom to be Boletus edulis, Boletus cf. edulis, or in the Boletus edulis group.
Habitat: Growing along tree roots in a mixed forest.
''Boletus edulis'' is a basidiomycete fungus, and the type species of the genus ''Boletus''. Widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere across Europe, Asia, and North America, it does not occur naturally in the Southern Hemisphere, although it has been introduced to southern Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
