  1. An rather unusual saltator, and a tricky species throughout its range. Rio Blanco is probably the best place to see it, and even there, it's never a guarantee. So, not a great photo, but I was happy to get it :) Posted 6 years ago, modified 6 years ago

The masked saltator is a species of saltator in the Thraupidae family.

It is found in southern Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. The species is found in two small disjunct ranges, as well as smaller localized areas in Ecuador and Peru.

Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests where it is threatened by habitat loss.
