Briza maxima
Introduced to this country from the Mediterranean.
An image of a stalk, leaf and young seed heads of Shivering Grass. I find watching these pretty little grasses in the breeze very soothing.
When the seed heads mature and dry, you can hear them rattling gently as well.
Plants are never more than 50 cm tall and each seed head 10 mm.

"Briza maxima" is a species of the grass genus "Briza". It is native to Northern Africa, the Azores, Western Asia, and Southern Europe and is cultivated or naturalised in the British Isles, Australasia, the western United States, Central and South America, and Hawaii.
