Striped Maple - Acer pensylvanicum
Striped maple is named for the conspicuous vertical white stripes that traverse its greenish bark. It's also called goosefoot maple for its broad, three-pronged leaves, which turn pale golden in the autumn. These were late to turn this year though, and the leaves were still green when I spotted this tree in mid-October.
Habitat: Growing in a mixed forest bordering a swamp.
Similar species: Sapindales
