Honey Mushrooms - Armillaria mellea
Caps were flat, orange/tan, faintly lined, and had scales concentrated toward the center. Gills were pinkish, attached to the stem and slightly decurrent with frequent short gills. The stipe had white flocculence and a ring.
Habitat: I spotted THOUSANDS of these mushrooms growing alone or in clusters throughout a mixed forest. They were everywhere!

Armillaria mellea is a basidiomycete fungus in the genus "Armillaria". It is a plant pathogen and part of a cryptic species complex of closely related and morphologically similar species. It causes Armillaria root rot in many plant species and produces mushrooms around the base of trees it has infected.
