
Violet Bitter Bolete (Tylopilus violatinctus)
Growing in a forested area (below mostly pines) in a public park in NW Georgia (Floyd County), GA. Nonstaining. Extremely bitter in flavor. White flesh. Stipe has some yellowish-brown discoloration. Stems are buggy.
Chemical analysis:
Iron salts—>Light olive on cap.
KOH—>Yellowish on cap.
Ammonia—>Dirty yellow on cap.

Tylopilus violatinctus, the Violet Bitter Bolete, is a bolete fungus in the Tylopilus genus. Appearance:
Bitter white cap flesh. Violet cap ages through pink to tan, bruising violet. Pinkish, yellow-staining stem browns w/age, apex staying white.
