
End Band Net-winged Beetle (Calopteron terminale)
Alighted on mushroom-covered logs at the edge of a forested area.
Calopteron terminale is a beetle within the Lycidae family.Members of this family display aposematic coloration, advertising the fact that they contain the distasteful lycidic acid (along with other nasty compounds), a toxic chemical used as a defense against predation.
There are several species of moths that mimic Lycid beetles in order to avoid predation. Some species include: Pyromorpha sp., Neoalbertia sp., Eudesmia sp, and Neofelderia sp.
