Sydney Harbour moon jellyfish
What a wonderful moment on the weekend, to look down over the barrier at Woolloomooloo wharf in Sydney - and see this beautiful collection of moon jellyfish floating in the water, 5 metres or so below me. Moon Jellies are found throughout Australia, living in the ocean, coastal waters and estuaries.
Average 30 cm diameter

"Aurelia aurita" is a widely studied species of the genus "Aurelia". All species in the genus are closely related, and it is difficult to identify "Aurelia" medusae without genetic sampling; most of what follows applies equally to all species of the genus.
