Pond and Surrounding Habitat - Sharon, Connecticut, USA
This is one of my favorite places in northwestern Connecticut. It's an area that has 5,000 acres (2,000 ha) of protected space. I never get bored here as there are meadows, marshes, swamps, forests, and gardens. The forests are mostly primary and include deciduous, coniferous, and mixed tracks. The wildlife includes bears, foxes, squirrels, chipmunks, bobcats, fishers, and countless birds like woodpeckers, great blue herons, and songbirds. Plus, there's a plethora of insects, snakes, frogs, salamanders, fungi, and plants! It is truly a paradise for nature-lovers.

There is also a very healthy beaver population at this location. Plus deer, raccoons, skunks, coyotes, and porcupines :). I run across a lot of animal tracks and scat, but rarely see any big animals. They are too elusive :). Posted 6 years ago
