Palawan Toadlet - Pelophryne albotaeniata
Endemic to Palawan Island, there was a bit of controversy about this Palawan Toadlet - Pelophryne albotaeniata whereby this species was lost to science and rediscovered after nearly half a century. With more wildlife photographers exploring more parts of Palawan, they have been found in more locations, previously not known/recorded. However, they are still listed as Vulnerable to Endangered due to habitat lost. They are only found in higher elevation mountain forest.
During my last trip, we saw one but it jumped away and didn't managed to get a picture of it. This time around, found this one that was very 'friendly' and happy to pose for pictures without moving a bit :)

The Palawan toadlet or white-striped flathead toad is a species of toad in the family Bufonidae.
It is endemic to Palawan, the Philippines.
''Pelophryne albotaeniata'' is similar to ''Pelophryne misera'' from Borneo, and it might be subspecies of the latter.

When I got back, I sent the pics to a friend from US who has expertise in Frogs from Philippines, and he confirmed it to me :) Posted 6 years ago
