Purple False Foxglove (Agalinis purpurea)
At the edge of a wetland in Floyd County, GA.
Like many other members of the Orobanchaceae family, Agalinis purpurea is a hemiparasitic plant. It uses haustoria to make a connection to the roots of host plants, siphoning nutrients from them. However, this species also has photosynthetic capabilities and can produce its own energy sources. The Agalinis genus is the largest genus of hemiparasitic plants in the eastern US.

''Agalinis purpurea'' is an annual forb native to the eastern United States and Canada, which produces purple flowers in late summer or early fall.
