Northern alligator lizard

This is the first time I've seen a lizard on this side of the mountains - and apparently this is the only kind that lives here.. at first I thought it was a snake, but it didn't run away.

  It was a pretty cool hike - no big views, but lots of interesting fauna. I've actually started using my map here to figure out where to go next... anywhere that I see a big area with no pins becomes a place I probably should look into exploring :). I'll likely be heading back to this forest at least a few more times - it should be a good place for mushrooms soon - and this year it's looking like it will be a good year. I've started seeing the first hints - it's still a bit warm during the days- so those that come up are rotting or molding really fast, but we are getting a bit of moisture and some cool night temperatures. In a couple weeks I expect the forest will be full of fungi once again. Posted 7 years ago

    I've said it many times before, but it is so awesome to see coverage building up year after year, season after season. A handful of people in the US are covering so much ground, truly incredible. Best of luck in the new fungi season, and above all, enjoy. Posted 7 years ago
