Ivory Coast Running Frog (Kassina arboricola) and friend
I saw four or five of these beautiful frogs in a couple of nights. Most were posed like this one, overhanging the edge of a leaf close to the ground, apparently in ambush position. The Kassina frogs are called "running frogs" because they tend to move one leg at a time, rather than hop.

A medium-sized, slender, spotted Kassina from the central part of West Africa (Ivory Coast and Ghana) with long and slender arms and legs. 33-46 large spots on flanks and dorsum. Belly always dark with black punctuations and larger spots. Two large occipital spots. Throat of males with black spots. Gular flap of males narrow and straight. Central part of belly granular.

With its walking behavior, big eyes, and leaning over the edge, it reminds me of jumping spider behavior. Posted 7 years ago
