Speckled Wood (Pararge aegeria tircis), Heeswijk-Dinther, Netherlands One of the most common butterflies in the Netherlands, since it has 3 generations per year, it can be seen from March to November. This is likely the Pararge aegeria tircis sub species, the northern counterpart of the main species, where the sub species is a bit more faint in term of color. <br />
My guess is that this is the male, as they are known to be very territorial, positioning themselves on a high sunny spot to fend of any competitors. Europe,Heeswijk-Dinther,Netherlands,Pararge aegeria,Speckled Wood,World Click/tap to enlarge Promoted
