Interestingly, the Latin and common name for this moth came about as a result of the smaller hindwings making pinning a difficult task. This often leads to the &quot;abortion&quot; of the task at hand. :) Dyspteris abortivaria,Geotagged,Summer,United States" /></a></figure><br />

  1. Lovely moth to have that common name. I bet if they had this moth in the Netherlands, it would have a very creative name. Posted 7 years ago

        1. Basically, yes! When you read it word for word you'll be surprised how similar english and dutch can be:

          1. Very close!

We had a friend from the Netherlands visit over a decade ago (when we were living in Boston), and it was very easy to pick up on some parts of the language. The same goes for all Germanic languages I guess? I can definitely pick up on similar words in the Swedish language too (one of my best friends is Swedish)!
