Saddleback caterpillar portrait
A face only a mother could love perhaps, or a case of beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Reminds me of a bear or a pig in some ways. Saddleback caterpillar anterior shot of 'face'. The venom-tipped urticating spines are embedded along the setae, seen protruding from the tubercles around the head. 15 mm length.

The saddleback caterpillar, ''Acharia stimulea'' , is the larva of a species of moth native to eastern North America. The species belongs to the family of slug caterpillars, Limacodidae.
