  1. Absolutely stunning. Amazing colors and great closeup! Posted 14 years ago
  2. Looks a lot like the kingfisher I photographed in Borneo:
Kingfisher on a branch This kingfisher was sitting on a branch of a mangrove tree on the bank of the Kinabatangan river in Sabah, Borneo Alcedinidae,Alcedo meninting,Asia,Birds,Blue-eared Kingfisher,Borneo,Geotagged,Indonesia,Kingfisher,Malaysia

Where did you take this picture?

    1. The look very much alike indeed..! 'Mine' is taken in the Netherlands though ;) Posted 14 years ago
      1. That's amazing. I traveled halfway around the earth to make that shot in a wobbly boat, twilight darkness in the middle of the Borneo jungle. I knew there were kingfishers ("ijsvogels") in the Netherlands, but I could not suspect that a specie this colorful would practically live in my own backyard :) Posted 14 years ago
        1. A few years ago, I was really suprised to learn that, too.
But there are many kingfishers here. Most of them very elusive though...;)

The Common Kingfisher is a small kingfisher with seven subspecies recognized within its wide distribution across Eurasia and North Africa. It is resident in much of its range, but migrates from areas where rivers freeze in winter.
