Bolete with a dry, tan cap, tight white pores, and a reticulated stipe with an enlarged base. I have not been able to identify it to species yet, but am seeking help.

    1. Thanks so much morpheme. Boletus cf. reticulatus was my guess so far as well. It's very close to Boletus edulis as well though...I'll check out that key again. Thanks :)

      1. It sounds like the species complex here in the US isn't that well documented.... I suppose as long as you can eat all of them, it's not a big deal to most people if they vary at the molecular level :p (I only found one mildly poisonous lookalike - no reticulated stem on that one). "Boletus variipes" is a species of mycorrhizal bolete fungus in the family Boletaceae, native to North America. It was originally described by American mycologist Charles Horton Peck in 1888.
