Boletus section Boletus
Bolete with a dry, tan cap, tight white pores, and a reticulated stipe with an enlarged base. I have not been able to identify it to species yet, but am seeking help.
Habitat: It was growing on the ground in a swampy, mixed forest with mostly oak, pine, and eastern hemlock.

"Boletus variipes" is a species of mycorrhizal bolete fungus in the family Boletaceae, native to North America. It was originally described by American mycologist Charles Horton Peck in 1888.
