Corrugated Cortinarius - Cortinarius corrugatus
This mushroom was not having a good day. I found it with the cap collapsed, slimy, and covered in flies. When I tried to flip it over, it collapsed into a pile of orange-brown mush with flies scattering everywhere like cockroaches.
Habitat: Growing on the ground in a swampy, mixed forest with pine, oak, and eastern hemlock.
Similar species: Agaricales
